We are looking for a highly motivated, outgoing, sales-driven individual to lead personal training sales and help manage the overall personal training experience within our gym.
This position is ideal for someone who loves fitness, enjoys working with people, and—most importantly—is comfortable SELLING.
The primary responsibility of this role is to grow personal training revenue by actively talking with members, identifying their goals and needs, conducting fitness consultations/assessments, and converting those conversations into personal training clients.
Once a member becomes a personal training client, this person will also help ensure they stay engaged, accountable, scheduled, and progressing toward their goals.
Primary Responsibilities
Personal Training Sales:
Actively generate personal training opportunities from current gym members, new members, leads, referrals, and former clients.
Initiate conversations with members on the gym floor instead of waiting for members to ask about training.
Conduct fitness consultations, goal-setting appointments, and body composition assessments.
Identify each member's goals, challenges, motivation, and barriers.
Recommend the appropriate personal training program based on the member's needs.
Clearly explain the value and benefits of personal training.
Confidently ask for the sale and close personal training agreements.
Follow up consistently with members who have expressed interest but have not yet purchased training.
Maintain an active pipeline of prospective personal training clients.
Work toward and achieve established monthly personal training sales and revenue goals.
Create referrals and additional sales opportunities through excellent relationships with current clients.
Client Goal & Progress Management:
Conduct regular client assessments and progress reviews.
Track client weight, body fat, lean body mass, visceral fat levels, and other relevant measurements.
Establish clear short-term and long-term goals with each client.
Review progress monthly and help clients establish new goals and action steps.
Identify clients who are losing motivation or falling off track and proactively re-engage them.
Celebrate client wins and milestones.
Help ensure clients understand the progress they are making beyond just the number on the scale.
Scheduling & Client Management:
Manage personal training schedules and help ensure clients are consistently utilizing their sessions.
Follow up with clients who miss workouts or have not scheduled upcoming sessions.
Help coordinate client schedules with the training team.
Monitor client attendance, session usage, and engagement.
Maintain organized and accurate client records.
Communicate regularly with trainers regarding client goals, progress, challenges, and upcoming assessments.
Identify clients approaching the end of their training program and begin renewal conversations early.
What We're Looking For
The ideal candidate is:
Highly motivated by goals and results.
Competitive and comfortable being held accountable to sales numbers.
Confident asking for the sale.
Comfortable discussing pricing and overcoming objections.
Personable, energetic, and able to connect with many different personalities.
Organized and capable of managing multiple clients, appointments, and follow-ups.
Comfortable initiating conversations with people they don't know.
Passionate about fitness and helping people improve their lives.
Able to balance relationship-building with the business objective of generating personal training revenue.
Previous fitness industry experience is helpful, but strong sales ability, personality, work ethic, and willingness to learn are extremely important.
Bottom Line
This is not a position for someone who wants to sit behind a desk and wait for members to approach them.
We are looking for someone who will get out into the gym, build relationships, create opportunities, follow up relentlessly, ask for the sale, and take ownership of growing our personal training business—while making sure the clients we already have receive an exceptional experience and continue progressing toward their goals.
